Chuckability
Isn’t the title a great word? Say it out loud to yourself and see if it doesn’t make you smile.
I came across “chuckability” in a post on IG rating potential wizard animal familiars. FYI, the American Water Shrew gets a 3/3 stars on chuckability.
Creatures getting tossed around makes me think of Jeff Cobb, as throwing full grown men around like they are rag dolls is one of his greatest talents. So now, I have a new dream. I want to interview Jeff Cobb. The entire interview will consist of me asking him to rate every member of the New Japan roster (and a few bonus wrestlers from other promotions) on their chuckability. The followup YouTube series will then feature Cobb putting his rankings to the test.
Call me New Japan. I have so many amazing ideas.
And as for who I think who has the best chuckability (because of course I thought of this as well. Not that I could chuck anyone on the NJPW roster, but it's still an amusing thought.), that's a tough call. By virtue of being at the bottom of the pecking order, the Young Lions seem like the obvious answer. Masato Yasuda is the lightest of the current crop, coming in at 83 kg (182.9 lbs). However, if we are considering weight as a major factor, according to the info in the list of New Japan Pro-Wrestling All Stars in my Wrestle Kingdom 19 & Wrestle Dynasty pamphlet, the least-heavy member of the roster is The DKC, coming in at 70 kg (154.3 lbs). If we are considering age (because lots of kids actually like being tossed around), Young Lion Daiki Nagai is the baby of the roster, being born in 2003.* Young Lion Shoma Kato, United Empire's Callum Newman, and TMDK's Kosei Fujita are a close second, all being born in the latter half of 2022. Personal feelings might come into play as well; get pissed off enough at someone and you might get the strength of 10 Grinches plus 2 and be able to chuck someone you might not be able to otherwise. That puts a lot of Bullet Club into contention, Yano and Taguchi will certainly be considered by some, and we may actually see Taichi be angry enough to chuck Sanada out of the ring at The New Beginning on 2/11. At the end of the day though, looks always matter to me and influence my decisions on things like this. Therefore, I think the current member of the NJPW roster with the greatest level of chuckability is Francesco Akira. Ever since he shaved off his facial hair, he looks like he went backwards through puberty. I don't care if the stats say he's not the youngest or the lightest and that he's never (for me at least) been annoying or evil in a way to deserve to be chucked. Based on looks alone, I think someone like Cobb could throw that boy from one end of a football field to the other with minimal effort.
What about you, Dear Reader? Who do you think is the member of the NJPW roster with the highest level of chuckability? And why?
*If anyone else reading this just thought something along the lines of "Sweet merciful Christ I am ANCIENT!" I hear you and I feel you.
